Even the most frequent travelers have one thing in common with everyone else – they hate packing!
There’s something about this task that’s extremely intimidating. You are flying half way across the world to a completely different place and need to decide on a small number of items from your life to take with you. Most often, people end up filling a big suitcase with everything they need, plus an extra bunch of “just in case” items.
There really isn’t a need to ever lug a whole lot of stuff on a trip, especially in a time when it costs anywhere from $25 to $50 for the luxury of checking a piece of luggage with your airline. With a little bit of careful planning, you can pack for most getaways with just one carry-on bag.
Here’s how you can build two week’s worth of stylish outfits using just ten garments and a few accessories.
Garments: 1. Printed trousers (Zara), 2. Floral blouse (Zara), 3. Jersey jacket (H&M), 4. Maxi skirt (Zara), 5. Long cardigan (H&M), 6. Printed tank (Zara), 7. Striped tunic (Zara), 8. Bleached denim (Zara), 9. Pleather jeggings (H&M), 10. Chiffon blouse (Zara)
It’s important to build your outfits using primarily neutrals and a few bold colors that all work well together. For this example, I went with black, white and grey neutrals and added bright blue, tangerine and olive colored pieces as toppers to brighten up each look and for interest. Sticking to patterned bottoms and solid colored tops (or vice versa) also makes it easy to mix and match items without the chance of something clashing, but if you are going to mix and match patterns, make sure they all work together for maximum flexibility when styling your outfits.
You should also choose cuts and textures that all complement. For example, the blazer I’ve chosen is not too dressy, and the bleached denim skinnies are not too casual, which means both will work well with nearly every other piece selected. The the skirt and the trousers are made from fabrics that can easily be dressed up with a pair of high heels or dressed down with a pair of sandals.
Shoes: 1. Patent platform pumps (Aldo), 2. Metallic flats (Aldo), 3. Grey and coral runners (Columbia)
As a standard rule, go for one pair of dressy shoes, one pair of comfortable flats you can walk in and one pair for any active pursuits.
Accessories: 1. Chunky bangle (Forever 21), 2. Dangly earrings (Forever 21), 3. Cocktail ring (Forever 21)
All your jewelry should go with every outfit you’ve packed, so it’s best to stick with metal of one color (in this case gold) that will work together with everything.
Mix and match all of that together and you’ve got 14 outfits!
